Light's Out!

Spreading conservation messages is all about turning on lightbulbs in others' heads- that means, you're passing on the power of knowledge to them about keeping the planet healthy!

One writer, however, doesn't like to light the way; he likes to blackout the way. Austin Kleon is a poet who makes poems using two items:

And Action!

Please comment below about your reactions to Austin's poem.
  • Do you think blackout poetry is a good way to get across a message? Why or why not?
  • What do you think "Start Now" means? What is he talking about?
  • Try and write your own blackout poetry!

Just Monkey-ing Around!

This NatGeo game allows you to step into the shoes of real life heroes who are on the front lines of conservation every day!

And Action!

Please click on any of the explorers who interest you. After reading about them, comment back here with:
  • The name of the person who you chose
  • What s/he does to help the environment
  • How is s/he a hero?
  • Finally, be sure to rate the game below!

"Be Heard! Be Strong! Be Proud! I Wanna Make Some Noise!"

"Here we go!" Now, it's your chance to be heard. Let your family, friends, community, and the world see how one person can make a difference. Lead by example and take any one (or more!) of Disney's Friends for Change pledges in their Take Action section.

And Action!

Please comment on which pledge you plan to take below.
  • Why did you choose that pledge?
  • Can you think of any more pledges that Disney might have forgotten?
  • Don't forget to come back here after you "take action" to let us know how it went!

You're too small to make a difference!

Do you really believe that? Phew! For a second there I was worried. Of course, you're never too small... or too tall, too old, or even too young to make a difference.

Just take a look at this example from Kenmore, NY this year. Two fifth graders are helping elephants to survive in both captivity and the savannah! Now that's what I call causing an uproar!

  • Click on the hyperlink and skim the article.
  • As you read, be on the lookout for interesting and unique words.
  • In the comment section, write down those interesting words and in one full sentence explain why they caught your attention.
    • Were they fun to say?
    • Spelled with lots of letters? Only a few letters?
    • A word you never knew existed before?

"A word's just a word 'til you mean what you say"

What if a million friends teamed up to help save the world? Imagine the possibilities for our planet!

Speaking of coming together, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers, collaborated on "Send It On," one of the theme songs for Disney's Friends for Change project. It's a global, go green effort that you can be a part of too! If you're interested, you can visit Disney's Friends for Change website to register and pledge to help the planet!

And Action!

Now after watcing those stars, the spotlight turns to you! Imagine you were the music video director!
Please comment below on:
  • Does the music video you watched reveal an environmental message? How?
  • What are your feelings after watching the music video?
  • How might the music video you create be the same or different from the one Disney did?
